NEW DELHI: For many Indians who wish to buy an iPhone, it might continue as an unfulfilled dream due to recent policy changes. This is due to recent tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. These tariffs could lead to a significant increase in iPhone prices. If Apple decides to pass on the additional costs to consumers, iPhone prices might rise by 30 to 40 percent. This could negatively impact Apple's sales, as the company might not want to transfer the entire cost to consumers.
Currently, the most affordable iPhone model is the iPhone 16, priced above Rs 68,000. If the full tariff cost is passed on, its price could exceed Rs 97,000. The premium iPhone 16 Pro Max could cost up to Rs 2 lakh, making it unaffordable for many. Apple typically offers discounts during price hikes, but no such discounts have been announced yet.
This situation might prompt consumers to consider alternatives like Samsung. Business experts suggest that other companies could capitalise on this opportunity and gain market share in countries like India.
