THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Child Rights Commission has directed that public schools should not conduct classes during the summer vacation. The order issued by the Commission also states that strict action will be taken if the instructions issued by the Department of General Education and the High Court in this regard are violated.

The Department of General Education has banned classes in all schools during the mid-summer vacation. This applies to the categories ranging from primary to high school, higher secondary to vocational higher secondary. The Division Bench comprising Commission Chairman K.V. Manoj Kumar and Commission Member Dr. S. Wilson directed the Director of General Education to check whether the instructions prohibiting classes are being followed.

The timings of vacation classes in CBSE and ICSE schools will be from 7.30 am to 10.30 am as per the High Court verdict. The CBSE Regional Director and ICSE Chairman should ensure this. Tuition centres can also conduct classes at the same time. The Director of the LSG Department and the DGP should ensure that there is no violation of the law. The Commission's verdict is on the petition of V.K. Kavitha, a native of Pallipuram, Thiruvananthapuram.
