The recent arrest of a young woman from Alappuzha with cannabis worth crores has sent shockwaves through the Malayalam film industry. The Excise Department reportedly found links between the woman and several prominent actors. However, the investigation team has not yet disclosed any detailed information about the case. Now, actor and director Alleppey Ashraf has publicly shared information regarding the alleged drug use of some young actors through his YouTube channel.
“Actor Shine Tom Chacko is someone who doesn’t disturb anyone on set,” Ashraf said. “But he was once arrested and jailed—not for bothering others, but for hosting a cocaine party with seven models in a flat in Kadavanthra. It was the first cocaine case in the Malayalam film industry. The case also showed how fame and money in cinema can help someone escape even the gravest accusations. The case ended like a joke. Forensic reports even stated the seized substance wasn’t cocaine.”
“If fans believed Shine had changed after the case, they are mistaken—he himself proved that,” Ashraf added. “Talented artists are being consumed by the villain of drugs. If we had a strict legal system and honest officers, Shine’s behavior might have changed after his first case.”
Ashraf also mentioned actor Sreenath Bhasi, saying that complaints about him are still being received. “He’s a very talented actor, but drugs are also consuming him. A section of young people in the Malayalam film industry now believe that direction isn’t possible without drugs. These people are just the small fish in the net. According to the Excise and Police Departments, it won’t be long before the big sharks are caught.”
Ashraf added that it’s not just actors—some actresses have also been involved in drug-related incidents. “We’ve all seen how one actress drove under the influence and created an accident, then behaved rudely with those who confronted her. These people have earned nothing but a bad name through drugs. Another actress was interrogated for attending a drug party. In one shocking case, 41 grams of MDMA were recovered from the genitals of a junior artist.”
Regarding the young woman arrested in Alappuzha with hybrid cannabis, Ashraf claimed she had close ties with the film industry. “She not only supplied cannabis but also brought hybrid models for a big-shot actor. Evidence shows the actor paid her Rs 25,000 to bring a model. It’s also said that she arranged college girls for several actors,” he alleged.
