CHENNAI: BJP and AIADMK will join hands again for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the two parties will contest together to seek the people's mandate. The announcement was made during a joint press conference attended by AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami. Palaniswami has been declared as the NDA's chief ministerial candidate for the elections. The decision to form the alliance was finalised after discussions between BJP and AIADMK leaders in Chennai.

The announcement followed the election of Nainar Nagendran as the BJP's state president, replacing Annamalai. Reports suggest that AIADMK had demanded Annamalai's removal from the post as a condition for the alliance. AIADMK reportedly expressed its willingness to ally with BJP if Annamalai was replaced. Interestingly, Annamalai was also present during the announcement of the alliance.
