Kerala braces for heavy rainfall on Saturday; Yellow alert declared in four districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of heavy rain in the state on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. Isolated heavy rain is expected. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

Light/moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds with speeds reaching up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts during the next three hours.

The National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) informed of the possibility of sea erosion due to high waves of 0.4 to 0.9 meters along the Kerala coast until 11.30 pm tonight and 0.6 to 0.8 meters along the Alappuzha coast until 11.30 pm tomorrow due to the Kallakadal phenomenon.
