NEW DELHI: CPM General Secretary MA Baby has strongly criticized Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar. He said that the Governor should have been ready to accept the Supreme Court verdict. MA Baby also asked whether the Governors have the power that the elected President does not have.
MA Baby's criticism came after the Kerala Governor came out against the Supreme Court's verdict against the Tamil Nadu Governor, which sets a time frame for the Governors to take decisions on bills passed by the Assembly.
'After a long time, the Supreme Court has announced a hopeful observation and verdict. The Supreme Court's verdict that indefinitely delaying laws passed by the State Assembly by Governors is not at all compatible with the democratic system is very important. Even the procedure of dismissing a peon is not necessary in dismissing a Governor.
The Governor's power is limited to the opinion of two or three people. Only the Home Minister or the Prime Minister is needed to dismiss the Governor. Governors should not create a situation where such matters have to be shouted to the people. All governors should have the understanding to understand the essence of the verdict," said MA Baby.
