KALPETTA: A mother has petitioned the High Court for a CBI investigation into her son's death at the Kalpetta police station. Gokul, a resident of Ambalavayal, was found dead in the station's toilet on April 1. Omana, Gokul's mother, has approached the court, which has asked the police for a report. A detailed hearing is scheduled after May 18.

Gokul, a minor, was detained by the police in connection with a girl's disappearance but was later found dead. Two officers from the Kalpetta police station, Deepa, the GD officer, and Sreejith, were suspended following the incident. The action was ordered by the Kannur Range DIG.

Wayanad District Police Chief Taposh Basumatari had filed a report recommending action against those responsible. The District Crime Branch also recorded statements from station officials. The Police Complaint Authority chairman visited the Kalpetta police station. A forensic team also conducted an inspection there. Meanwhile, tribal organizations announced plans to protest, demanding a thorough investigation into Gokul's death.

The family has leveled serious accusations against the police. They claimed police officers repeatedly visited the missing girl’s house and threatened not to release Gokul if he was caught. Allegations also include confiscation of mobile phones belonging to Gokul's friends and relatives. It is further alleged that Gokul’s mother and family members were taken to the police station for questioning.
