THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar praised Kerala for being a model in waste management and expressed pride in being associated with the state. He was speaking at the concluding session of the Cleanliness 2025 Conclave.
He highlighted that the success of Kerala's waste management lies in the active participation of the people. He credited Minister M.B. Rajesh's dedication for the achievements. However, he noted that the current level of cleanliness is not permanent and emphasized the need to make cleanliness a habit.
The Governor also stated that the most significant outcome of the Vruthi 2025 Conclave was building consensus on objections related to waste management plants. Awards were presented to local self-government institutions excelling in waste management. Minister M.B. Rajesh presided over the event at Kanakakunnu. V.K. Prashanth MLA, Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan, and Special Secretary of the Local Self-Government Department Anupama T.V. were among the other attendees. The Vruthi Conclave exhibition will conclude today.
Awards for Amballur and Guruvayur
Amballur Grama Panchayat in Ernakulam district, Guruvayur Municipality, and Kozhikode Corporation received awards for outstanding waste management. Maniyoor Panchayat in Kozhikode district secured second place, while Punnapra South Panchayat in Alappuzha district came third among the panchayats.
In the municipalities category, Anthoor in Kannur district and Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district were awarded second and third places, respectively. Thrissur Corporation won the second position in the corporation category.
Thiruvananthapuram Corporation received a special award for its effective waste management during Attukal Pongala and State School Kalotsavam programs.
