BENGALURU: According to a report, 70% of Karnataka's population belongs to the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category. This crucial information regarding OBC groups is from the caste census report prepared under the leadership of Justice J. Kantharaj. The report also states that Dalits, Adivasis (Scheduled Tribes), and OBCs together constitute 94% of the state's total population. The report recommends increasing the current OBC reservation from 32% to 52%.
The report was presented in the last cabinet meeting. A special cabinet meeting has been scheduled for April 17 solely to discuss the report in detail. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of protests from the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities against the report.
