National Herald case; ED files chargesheet against Sonia and Rahul

NEW DELHI: A chargesheet has been filed against Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case. The Enforcement Directorate filed the chargesheet in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. Sam Pitroda's name has been included in the chargesheet. The court will hear the case on the 25th of this month.

The ED filed the case on a complaint by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy that Sonia and Rahul, directors of a company called Young Indian, had embezzled assets worth crores of rupees from Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the owners of the National Herald newspaper.

National Herald Case

Associated Journals Limited, the operating company of the National Herald newspaper, had taken an interest-free loan of Rs 90 crore from the Indian National Congress. It is alleged that when this amount was not repaid, a company called Young Indian, formed in 2010 with a capital of Rs 5 lakh, acquired the Rs 5,000 crore assets of Associated Journals Company.

Sonia, Rahul, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sam Pitroda and others are the directors of Young Indian Company. Subramanian Swamy filed a case against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the Delhi High Court. Subramanian Swamy alleges that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and his associates have formed a company called Young India and looted the company AJL, which has assets worth crores of rupees.
