ALUVA: The first flight of Air Kerala, the first private airline in Kerala, will take off from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram in the second week of June, Chairman Afi Ahmed and CEO Harish Kutty announced at a press conference. All that is left is to obtain the aircraft operating certificate.
The aim is to operate the service at a low cost. Currently, three aircraft have been leased from an Irish company. Two more will arrive soon. 72-seater aircraft will be used for the service. There are also plans to buy own aircraft in the future. The aim is to connect small towns in South and Central India with Kochi.
15 crores have already been spent on the project. Once the aircraft operating certificate is obtained, another 25 crores will have to be spent. It is expected that 75 crores will be needed just to provide concessions in ticket prices to passengers.
