THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Human Rights Commission registered a case after it was reported that plastic ‘Kanikonna’ flowers were widely sold during this year’s Vishu festival. Plastic flowers have entered the market as ‘Kanikonna’ availability plummeted in recent times. These plastic flowers, which are easily available to those living in cities, were also in the market during the previous years.
However, the Human Rights Commission took action, pointing out the rampant use of such plastic flowers during this Vishu season. The commission has sent notices to local bodies regarding the incident. It is learnt that the case will be considered at the sitting in May.
