Two cops suspended for thrashing son of CPM area committee member and DYFI activists in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Two police officers of Perumbadappu police station have been suspended on charges of attacking the son of a CPM area committee member and DYFI activists during a clash that broke out at a festival in Eramangalam. Another police officer has been transferred.

Senior civil police officer San Soman and civil police officer U Umesh have been suspended pending investigation. Civil police officer J Joja has been transferred to Kottakkal. The incident took place during the Puzhakkara festival held on April 2.

The complaint is that in the clash that broke out during the festival, some police officers from Perumbadappu police station broke the tooth of Abhiram, son of CPM Ponnani area committee member Suresh Kakkanath and also beat DYFI activists who were with him. The CPM Ponnani area committee had filed a complaint against the police officers to the chief minister and others. They were suspended following the complaint.
