KOTHAMANGALAM: Police have registered a case against the organising committee in connection with the incident where a gallery collapsed during a football tournament at Pallarimangalam in Adivad. The Pothanikad police have filed the case. As per reports, 52 people were injured in the incident, but fortunately, none of the injuries are said to be serious.
Preliminary indications suggest that the accident may have occurred because too many spectators climbed onto the temporary gallery, which was made of wood. Organisers stated that the legs of the temporary structure had sunk into the ground due to rain, which might have led to the collapse. The shocking incident occurred just before the final match of the tournament. Rain had fallen in the area shortly before the match. Around 4,000 people had gathered to watch the game.
The incident happened around 10 PM. The gallery that collapsed was a temporary structure built at the Adivad Malik Dinar Ground. The floodlit sevens tournament was being organised under the leadership of the Adivad Hero Youngs Club. Those injured were quickly taken to various hospitals in Kothamangalam and Aluva by the police, organisers, and fire force personnel.
