THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department warned of the possibility of heavy rain in the state until Friday. A yellow alert has been declared in four districts, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Kannur districts. Heavy rainfall is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department also predicted the possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts in the coming hours.

Lightning strikes are dangerous. They cause great damage to human and animal life, electrical communication networks, and household appliances connected to electrical conductors. Therefore, the public should take precautions the moment they start seeing the clouds. Lightning may not always be visible. Therefore, do not refrain from taking such precautions.
