PAHALGAM: A heartbreaking image has emerged from the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, showing a young woman sitting beside the body of her deceased husband. The couple had been married just six days before the tragedy. Details such as their names and the state they belong to have not yet been released.
According to the woman, she and her husband were eating pani puri when an unidentified group of attackers opened fire. One of the assailants shot her husband without any provocation. Videos of the woman tearfully pleading for help to save her husband, who lay injured from the gunfire, have been widely circulated on social media. Intelligence sources suggest the attack was specifically targeted at tourists. Locals reported that the terrorists were dressed as police officers or army personnel.
The attack occurred at 2:30 PM on Tuesday. Reports indicate that three people were involved in the shooting. Among the injured were also some local residents. The incident took place in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam, a remote area inaccessible by vehicles, reachable only on foot or by horseback.
There has been a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir in recent times. It is in this context that the targeted attack on tourists took place. According to both police and local residents, the location where the incident occurred is a popular tourist destination. The terrorist organisation "The Resistance Front" has claimed responsibility for the attack. This group is reportedly affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
