PAHALGAM: Karnataka-based businessman Manjunath was killed in front of his wife and family in the terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, today afternoon. Manjunath Rao, a real estate businessman from Shivamogga, had travelled to Kashmir with his wife Pallavi and their son for a vacation. Pallavi is still in shock after witnessing the brutal attack on her husband. National media reports quote her as saying that it all feels like a nightmare.

Her husband was killed right in front of her and their son. "First, they attacked us. Then, they killed my husband. I told them, 'Haven't you already taken my husband from me? Go ahead, kill us too.' One of them responded, 'We won’t kill you — go and tell Modi about this,'" Pallavi reportedly told national media.

Pallavi also said it seemed the attackers were targeting Hindus. She added that three local residents came to her and her son’s rescue. The attack occurred at 2:30 PM on Tuesday. Local residents were also among the injured. The shooting took place in the Baisaran valley area of Pahalgam, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. The area is not accessible by vehicle and can only be reached on foot or horseback, making it a difficult and remote path.

So far, official confirmation states that 25 people have died in the attack. Tourist footfall in Jammu and Kashmir has seen a significant increase in recent times, and it is in this context that the targeted attack on tourists took place. Police and local residents say the area where the attack occurred is frequented by many tourists. The terrorist organisation 'The Resistance Front' has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group is reportedly affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
