19-year-old teen slips to death in Periyar River in Ernakulam

KOCHI: A 19-year-old teen drowned in the Mudikkal Periyar River in Perumbavoor on Saturday. Fatima, the daughter of Mudikkal native Shaji, died in the incident. The accident occurred when she slipped from a rock near the river. Fatima's sister Farhat (15), who slipped into the river in the incident, was rescued.

The sisters met with an accident this morning while walking along the shore in Mudikkal. The incident occurred at the Mudikkal depot pier. After their morning walk, Fatima slipped into the water while trudging over a rock nearby.

A man, fishing nearby, immediately jumped into the water, rescued Farhat, and took her to the hospital with the help of locals. However, Fatima could not be saved. Farhat is a student of Mudikkal Mary School. Fatima was a student of Perumbavoor Marthoma College.
