Malayalam cinema lost Rs 168.53 crore in March. Empuraan is leading in terms of theatre revenue. The Mohanlal starrer earned Rs 24.65 crore in the first five days. Even after Empuraan's OTT release last week, it is still being screened in some theatres. The film Abhilasham, which was released alongside Empuran, earned just Rs. 15 lakh.
15 films were released. Rs 194,42,06,985 was spent on 13 films and Rs 25,88,31,000 was earned back. This is a figure prepared by the Kerala Film Producers Association based on theatre revenue only. The films released in March are still continuing to be screened. There is also a film that received only Rs 22,000 as theatre revenue.
