THRISSUR: Narayana Das, the main accused, who was absconding after framing Sheela Sunny, owner of a beauty parlour in Chalakudy, in a false narcotic case, has been held. The accused was taken into custody by a team led by Kodungallur ACP V K Raju from Bengaluru. He will most probably be brought to Kerala at the earliest. Narayana Das, the first accused in the case belongs to Thrippunithura.
After accusing him in the case, the excise crime branch filed a chargesheet in February last year. Sheela Sunny was arrested by excise officials on February 27, 2023, following an anonymous phone message. An object similar to an LED stamp was recovered from Sheela's bag in the search.
Sheela arrested then had to spent 72 days in jail. She was acquitted after chemical tests found that the stamp did not contain drugs. Subsequent investigations revealed that Sheela was cheated by Narayana Das. The excise crime branch then arraigned him in the case.
Sheela later approached the high court with the case. Following the high court's direction, the police began an investigation into the case, which was being investigated by the excise crime branch, in January this year. The team led by ACP V K Raju took over the investigation on March 7th.
