People holding erstwhile five-rupee notes can exchange them for rewards ranging up to lakhs. However, any random five-rupee note won’t do the business. If you have notes from a specific series, you can get up to six lakhs for five rupees.

You should check if the note has the three-digit serial number 786. Also, the note should have a photo of the tractor and the farmer. The possibility of this offer being circulated on social media being a scam cannot be ruled out. The Reserve Bank does not legally allow a private individual or institution to sell or buy such notes.
