MANGALURU: The family has accepted the body of Ashraf of Wayanad, who was lynched by a mob near Mangaluru in Karnataka. He will be laid to rest at the Mahal Mosque in Parappur, Malappuram. He was beaten to death by a mob for shouting Pakistan Zindabad during a cricket match.
His family said that Ashraf was mentally disturbed. So far, 20 have been arrested in the case. Heavy security has been imposed in Mangaluru following the incident. A special investigation team may be assigned to investigate the case. Ashraf's brother Jabbar, who arrived in Mangaluru, has received the body.
The youth was lynched by a mob on the grounds of shouting 'Pakistan Zindabad' during a local cricket match. Police said that T Sachin of Kudupu, an auto driver led the attack. After the murder, they left the body on the ground and escaped. The post-mortem report said the cause of death was deep wounds on the head and body. There was also internal bleeding.
The police said that the case was registered following a complaint by Deepak Kumar, a resident of the area. The commissioner added that evidence is being actively collected and all those involved will face maximum punishment. He said that the police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to identify more people involved in the incident.
