KALPETTA: The State Police Chief has recommended a CBI investigation into the death of Gokul, a tribal youth who died at the police station while in custody. This action follows a petition filed by Gokul's family in the High Court demanding a CBI probe into his death.
The information came to light through a Right to Information (RTI) reply given to Kulathur Jaisingh, a High Court advocate and social activist. The reply states that the State Police Chief had indeed written a letter recommending a CBI investigation into Gokul's death. The family had filed a complaint seeking a fair investigation into the unnatural death of Gokul and also approached the High Court requesting a CBI inquiry. Currently, the case is being investigated by the Crime Branch.
Gokul, who was taken into custody from Kozhikode along with a female friend, was later found hanging in the toilet of the police station.
