THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ASHA workers have ended their hunger strike that has been going on for days at the Secretariat. The hunger strike was ended after offering tender coconut to the workers. Various labour organizations have also reached the venue in support of them on the 81st day of the day-night strike. The flag-off of the day-night strike, starting from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram on May 5 and ending on June 17, was held at the protest panthal at 12 noon. Prominent Gandhian Dr M P Mathai performed the flag-off function.

Meantime, Kalamandalam Chancellor Mallika Sarabhai has come forward in support of the ASHA workers' strike. Mallika Sarabhai will inaugurate the protest honorarium distribution program for ASHAs in Thrissur this afternoon. The program is at 2:30 pm today. There is information that the government is taking steps to discourage Mallika Sarabhai. Following this, Mallika Sarabhai has registered a response on Facebook. She asked that she should remain silent as a chancellor.
