KOZHIKODE: It has been reported that brothels are actively operating in buildings near the railway station in Kozhikode city. Recently, a 17-year-old girl from Assam had sought refuge at the Medical College Police Station after escaping from such a place. The revelations she made to the police were deeply shocking. The minor, trafficked under the guise of employment, made shocking disclosures that have prompted a police investigation.
According to police sources, the girl was brought to Kerala by an Assam native man she met on Instagram. He had promised her a job with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, but instead, she was taken to a brothel and confined with five other young women.
The girl told police that three to four men visited their room daily, with the number rising to six or seven on Sundays. The Assam native man allegedly kept the room locked at all times. The girl managed to flee about a week ago while he stepped out during a phone call without locking the door.
A day prior to her escape, the accused had taken her to the Medical College Hospital. During the trip, she spotted the nearby police station and made a mental note of it. After escaping from the brothel, she got into an autorickshaw and asked the driver to take her to the police station. Upon arriving there, she explained the situation to the police, who then informed the Child Welfare Committee. The committee provided counselling and a medical examination before relocating the girl to the Vellimadukunnu Children's Home. Although the girl's Aadhaar card listed her age as 20, upon questioning, it was revealed that the document had been forged by the man. Police are currently trying to locate and arrest him.
