Sterilization is only solution for stray dog attack, Centre should simply rule, says M B Rajesh

PALAKKAD: Local Self Government Minister M B Rajesh responded to the deaths of three children in the state in stray dog attack in a month. The minister told a media that changes should be brought in the central laws and the conditions for catching and sterilizing stray dogs should be simplified. The institutions that were running smoothly had to be closed as per the order of the central government. The state government has limitations in this regard. Sterilization is the only solution to stray dog attacks, the minister said.

‘There should be changes in the central government's ABC rules. The central government's condition is that stray dogs should be caught and sterilized in operation theaters in specially equipped ABC centers. It should be an air-conditioned operation theater. Only a doctor with seven years of experience can perform surgery. There is a condition that a refrigerator is required.

The conditions are that dogs should be treated for a week, the wound should heal, and make sure that it will not be infected before releasing them from where they were caught. Is it easy to sterilize lakhs of stray dogs by following all these conditions? If any of the conditions are violated, it will be a crime and a case will be registered.

Despite funds, there is a lot of opposition to set up ABC centers in Kerala. Overcoming all these oppositions, about 30 ABC centers have been set up in Kerala. Earlier, there were about nine thousand ABC centers in Kerala. All of them were closed at once,' said M B Rajesh.
