'Selling poor quality products imported from China'; BIS raids Amazon's warehouse in Kalamassery

KOCHI: The Bureau of Indian Standards will take action against Amazon for selling products online without maintaining quality and without publishing manufacturing information. A raid was conducted at Amazon's warehouse in Kalamassery on Sunday. Information on transactions made in the past year will also be collected.

Hundreds of products worth lakhs of rupees were seized in a raid conducted by the BIS Kochi office. BIS officials said that a case has been registered against Amazon and its local partner, Mahindra Logistics, for stocking products that violated the Quality Control Order (QCO).

On April 6, Kerala Kaumudi reported about poor quality products being sold through the e-commerce giant. The fraud was committed by not registering the BIS certificate and affixing a fake one. The seized items included household electronic and electrical appliances, kitchen appliances, toys, and footwear manufactured by domestic and foreign companies. The products do not have the ISI mark, and the legal information should be printed on the packaging.

There was no name, address or date of manufacture of the product. The products were being sold without any labels, as they were imported from China.
