'Rejecting thesis due to personal vendetta'; Calicut univ law student alleges mental torture from faculties

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Allegations surfaced against faculties of Calicut University taking retaliatory action against an LLM student to settle personnel scores.

Faculties are purportedly harassing law student Indulekha, a native of Attingal, by not accepting her final-year thesis. The student, who was in severe mental distress, had to be admitted to the hospital. Indulekha’s distraught father, Shaji Viswanathan, went to the university's law department on April 22 and pleaded, but no one listened. The frustrated man then attempted suicide and was later administered seventeen stitches on his wrist.

Indulekha believes that her involvement in reporting the problems including the college library not being open, classes not starting on time, and not being allowed to eat in the hostel mess, have invited the wrath of faculties.

“They cite various reasons to dump my thesis every time I submit it,” said Indulekha.

The faculties examined the thesis for plagiarism but the result favored Indulekha. The officials then told her about their difficulty in comprehending the work and denied approving it. The last date for submitting the thesis was the 19th. The college council members told Indulekha to make corrections and submit the paper on the 21st. She reached the college that day. But the teacher who was supposed to examine her did not come. The complainant demands that if the thesis cannot be accepted, a rejection letter be issued stating the reason. Indulekha has filed a complaint with Thenjipalam Police, Calicut VC, and the University Grievance Cell.
