WASHINGTON: US Vice President J D Vance said that the conflict between India and Pakistan is not fundamentally our issue. His response was in an interview with Fox News. He also clarified that the only thing the United States can do is to encourage them to de-escalate a little bit.
‘The only thing the United States can do is to encourage them to de-escalate a little bit but we are not going to get involved in the middle of war that’s fundamentally none of our business. We will not interfere in this because it is not within America’s ability to control it. The United States cannot ask the Indians to lay down their arms. We cannot ask the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. Therefore, we are going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels. Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or a nuclear conflict,' Vance said.
Meantime, the American Embassy has directed its consulate staff and citizens to leave Lahore. The United States issued the instruction, including to its citizens, after Pakistan attacked Indian military bases and India retaliated. The consulate also stated that it had received information that people may be evacuated from some areas near the main airport in Lahore. The US Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan will also send updates as needed through our messaging system.
