KOCHI: A tourist bus rammed into a lorry near Kumbalam toll plaza on the national highway in Ernakulam on Saturday. The bus ferrying people, who attended an event in Malappuram, rammed into the rear of a container lorry on Saturday morning.

The accident took place at around 2.50 am today. 28 people were injured. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Nettoor. All the injured are natives of Thiruvananthapuram.

It is common for large vehicles coming from the Kundannur area to be diverted. The lorry slowed down to make this turn while the bus coming at a high speed rammed into the rear. It is suspected that the driver of the bus fell asleep while at the wheels. Since the bus could not be moved from the road, vehicles were diverted via the service road.

The injured were taken to the hospital in other vehicles by a team of police, fire force, and traffic personnel.
