THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has said that the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala on May 27. The monsoon will arrive five days earlier than usual. According to weather experts, there is a possibility of it arriving four days ahead or behind. The monsoon will first arrive in the south Andaman Sea, southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands on May 13.
IMD had earlier said that Kerala will receive more than normal rainfall during the monsoon season from June to September. Kerala is expected to receive 2018.6 mm of rainfall this season. 1748 mm of rainfall was received last season. It is expected that the country will receive more rainfall than normal in general, except for Ladakh, Tamil Nadu, and northeast India.
