THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of heightened security measures in the state capital, a 3-kilometre radius around the Thiruvananthapuram airport has been declared a red zone. Drone operations within this area are strictly prohibited. Several other key locations in the city have also been declared no-drone zones.
The no-fly zones include:
Raj Bhavan, the Kerala Legislative Assembly, the residences of the Chief Minister and other ministers, the residence of the Opposition Leader, the Government Secretariat, Vizhinjam Harbor, VSSC/ISRO Thumba, ISRO International System Unit Vattiyoorkavu, LPSC/ISRO Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram Domestic and International Airport, Southern Air Command Akkulam, Reserve Bank of India Thiruvananthapuram, Technopark Phases I, II, and III, Radar Station Mukkunnimala, Thampanoor Bus Stand, Military Camp Pangode, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology Jagathy, Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, and the Police Headquarters Thiruvananthapuram.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner stated that drone flying is strictly prohibited within a 2-kilometre radius of these locations under any circumstances.
In red zone areas, flying drones is not permitted under any condition. In other areas, prior permission must be obtained to operate drones. The Commissioner further warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone flying drones without proper authorisation.
