THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in various districts, hinting that the rain is getting stronger again in the state. There is a special alert on four districts today. The alert is in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours.

13/05/2025: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram

14/05/2025: Yellow alert has also been issued in Ernakulam, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur.

As part of the black sea phenomenon, there is a possibility of sea erosion due to high waves of 0.4 to 0.7 meters on the Kerala coast until 11.30 pm tomorrow and on the Thiruvananthapuram coast until 05.30 pm tomorrow. Meantime, the IMD has clarified that there is no obstacle to fishing on the Kerala-Karnataka- Lakshadweep coasts today. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to be vigilant as there is a possibility of sea erosion.

1. As the sea is likely to become rough, they should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Launching small boats and dinghies into the sea should be avoided during this time.
3. Landing fishing vessels into the sea during a period when there is a possibility of rough seas and high waves is just as dangerous as landing them ashore. Therefore, landing them into the sea and landing them ashore during a period when the waves are strong should be avoided.
4. All activities, including tourism centered on beaches, should be completely avoided until the warning is withdrawn by the Marine Research Institute.
5. Keep fishing vessels (boats, yachts, etc.) safely tied up in the harbor. Maintaining a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Ensure the safety of fishing equipment.
6. Avoid trips to the beach and recreational activities at sea completely.
7. Be especially vigilant as coastal erosion is possible.
