FIR says gold missing from Padmanabhaswamy Temple is theft

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police said the incident of the gold that went missing from Padmanabhaswamy temple is a theft. The theft was between May 7th and May 10th. The police are continuing grilling the employees in the incident. The police said that scientific examination will be crucial. The gold was recovered from the sand inside the temple within days of the disappearance.


The police had earlier said that there was no theft attempt in the incident of the gold rod of 13 sovereigns that went missing from the temple. Thiruvananthapuram DCP Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh told media that the examination revealed that there was no forced theft in the strong room. The gold was found from the sands of the temple when investigation was underway into the missing gold. The gold was found 30 meters away from the strong room.

The gold was found missing on Saturday. The gold rod kept for carrying out gold plating work on the door of the sanctum sanctorum was found on the ground between the strong room and the place where the work was ongoing. The gold rod is assumed to have gone missing while being taken back to the store room.
