MALAPPURAM: Hybrid ganja worth Rs 9 crore seized from Karipur airport. The police seized 18 kg of ganja brought from Abu Dhabi. The police have arrested two from Mattanur in Kannur, who had come to receive the stuff. Prinjil (35) and Roshan R Babu (33) are the two arrested. An investigation has been launched for the passenger who escaped from there. The incident happened Monday night. The ganja was brought in a trolley bag.
Meantime, the police arrested four West Bengal natives from Nedumbassery the other day who had developed a new strategy for ganja smuggling. The Rural District DANSAF team and Nedumbassery police arrested Rakhibul Molla (21), Sirajul Munshi (30), Rabi (42) and Saiful Sheikh (36), natives of Murshidabad, with about 24 kg of ganja stuffed inside 200 bicycle pumps.
They were taken into custody from Nedumbassery Airport Signal Junction in a raid conducted following a tip-off received by district police chief M Hemalatha. They brought ganja from Odisha after paying Rs 2,000 per kilo and planned to sell it here for ten times the price. After getting off the train in Coimbatore, the group reached Angamaly by bus. They were then taken into custody while taking an auto.
They were travelling on the pretext of selling bicycle pumps. All the pumps were filled with ganja. This is the first time that such drug trafficking has been caught. Narcotics Cell DySP J Umesh Kumar, Aluva DySP T R Rajesh, Nedumbassery Inspector Sabuji and others were present during the raid.
