CHANDIGARH: Five people have been arrested after 14 died after consuming spurious liquor at Amritsar in Punjab. The arrested have been identified as Prabhjit Singh, Kulbir Singh, Sahib Singh, Gurjant Singh and Ninder Kaur. The victims were from five villages in Amritsar who died while undergoing treatment after consuming liquor. Six of them are still undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The dead were from five villages namely Bhangali, Patalpuri, Marari Kalan, Terewal and Talwandi Guman. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni confirmed the death of 14 people. Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh also reached the spot and assessed the situation. A case has been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and the Excise Act, police officials said.
