New leadership for KPCC; is this 'Sunny' dawn for UDF?

The new office bearers of the KPCC have taken charge. The difference this time is that there were no usual outbursts accompanying the succession. The old president K Sudhakaran and the new president Sunny Joseph MLA arrived at Indira Bhavan in the same vehicle for the appointment ceremony. That itself is a rarity. Sunny Joseph is not a well-known leader in Kerala. However, his mature responses and comments give hope that he will emerge as a great leader.

The changes this time have brought a relatively youthful look to the KPCC leadership. Shafi Parambil MP and MLAs P.C. Vishnunath and A.P. Anilkumar have taken office as working presidents, and Adoor Prakash MP is the UDF convener. All of them are the peaceful faces of Congress. At the same time, in addition to being people's representatives, they are also recognised by non-Congress members. There is no way that they will not come up with a new style of work that will invigorate the Congress. They are capable of blazing a new path in case leaders with an attitude stand in the way.

The UDF has been away from power for almost ten years. Therefore, it is a matter of their survival to fly the flag of victory in the upcoming local body and assembly elections. Not only will the UDF not be able to come to power just by criticising Pinarayi Vijayan and his family, but it will also retaliate if it goes too far. Pinarayi is a leader who gains more strength the more he is criticised. The case of Indian Prime Minister Modi is no different. Therefore, the Congress must regain its lost popularity by devising a strategy that exposes the failures of the LDF's administration without giving priority to personal criticism. Half of the victory can be ensured in each assembly constituency by giving importance to the youth who actively intervene in the daily problems of the people, instead of making the regular faces candidates citing various reasons. The new leadership believes that if certain prominent communities in society are ignored based on prejudice in the selection of candidates, it will backfire. That feeling will do only good, not harm.

KPCC President Sunny Joseph said that the party is taking up the mission of a resounding victory in the local body elections and the assembly elections. He added that the party will continue its relentless fight against the Pinarayi Vijayan administration, which is mired in corruption, extravagance and anti-people practices.

K Sudhakaran has stepped down from the post of party president after delivering a resounding victory to the Congress in the last Lok Sabha elections and other by-elections. The 'million-dollar' question is whether these victories can be continued at the same pace. If the infighting for the Chief Minister's post is avoided and the party works systematically, a new dawn cannot be said to be far away for the UDF.
