THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There has been an increase in the number of students coming to Kerala for educational purposes. The largest increase has been recorded in the number of children coming to aided and government schools in Kerala from various states. The figures indicate that there has been a 13 percent increase in the number of students from class 1 to class 10.
According to the information received from the Director of General Education, 21,299 students from other states studied in government, aided and unaided schools in the state of Kerala in the year 2023-24. This has increased to 24,525 by the year 2024-25. That is an increase of 15.14 percent. There are 10,018 students in government schools and 13,619 students in aided schools. Last year, there were 8,490 students in government schools and 12,421 students in aided schools.
The largest number of children coming to study in Kerala comes from Tamil Nadu. Most of the remaining students are from the states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. While 11,394 students from these states studied in Kerala last academic year, 13,751 students studied in 2024-25.
Students from other countries are also studying in Kerala. In the 2024-25 academic year, 336 students came to study in schools in the state of Kerala. Of these, 332 are from Nepal. Students from Sri Lanka, Philippines and Maldives are also studying in Kerala.
