Three days with dead bodies; looking back at Nanthancode massacre committed by Cadell Jeansen Raja

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cadell Jeansen Raja is a brutal man who killed his mother and hid her in the toilet before having lunch with his father and sister. Cadell spent three days with the four bodies in his residence at Nanthancode. He carried out the massacre after buying an axe online and learning how to slit the throat from YouTube. The first person he killed was his mother, Dr. Jean Padma.

On April 5, 2017, Cadell called his mother, Dr. Jean Padma, to his bedroom on the pretext of showing her a new computer game. He made her sit in front of the computer and slit her throat from behind with an axe. Cadell hacked and stabbed his mother to death after she fell to the floor. He dragged her body and locked it in the toilet in the bedroom. He cleaned the floor with a floor cleaner. When his father, Prof. Raja Thankam, came home in the afternoon and started drinking, Cadell approached him and urged him to drink more. Cadell had lunch with his father and sister Dr. Carol. After lunch, he went upstairs to watch his father drinking. He made sure his sister was in her room. When Raja Thankam came upstairs, Cadell made his father sit in front of the computer, saying he will show him a game, and he slashed his head with the axe. He locked his father's body in the toilet along with his mother's body. The bedroom floor and walls were cleaned.

An hour later, Cadell took his sister upstairs to his room, saying that her friend John in Australia had sent her an e-mail asking to talk to Carol. After making her sit in front of the computer table, Cadell slashed her head with the axe and moved the body to the bathroom. There, he slit her throat with a knife. The next day, Cadell brought his relative Lalitha to his parents' bedroom, making her believe that his mother, who had gone on a vacation, had called on the landline phone upstairs. Cadell slashed Lalitha's neck with an axe. He wrapped her body in a plastic sheet and hid it in the bathroom in the same room. After the massacre, he went to a petrol pump in Kowdiar in an autorickshaw and bought petrol in two cans. When he reached home and tried to burn the bodies, the whole house filled with smoke and fire. With this, Cadell got out and ran away. He took an auto to Thampanoor and from there went to Nagercoil and Chennai. When he checked into a hotel near Egmore station, he saw the news on TV and returned to Thiruvananthapuram by train. He was arrested at Thampanoor railway station on April 10.

Cadell's reasons

1. His family used to isolate and blame him since his childhood.
2. His family kept him away from his classmates, saying that he was mentally ill.
3. His parents used to constantly blame him because he was backward in studies
4. He could not tolerate his parents showing more love to his sister
