THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man who allegedly married and deceived multiple women after promising marriage has been arrested for defrauding them of lakhs of rupees. The arrested person is Vimal (37), a taxi driver from Anad in Thiruvananthapuram. He was arrested by the Nedumangad police based on complaints lodged by two women from Nedumangad and Pulippara.
According to the police, Vimal took a total of Rs 6.5 lakh and 5 sovereigns of gold from the two women before marrying another woman. He already has other cases of marriage fraud pending against him. His modus operandi involved living with a woman for six months to a year after marriage, then abandoning her and moving on to another target. He also has robbery cases registered at the Nedumangad police station.
The police stated that in at least one instance, the marriage was legally registered. However, they clarified that Vimal usually did not stay with any woman for more than a year. The Nedumangad police are now investigating whether there are more complaints against him. They are also examining his bank transactions and details related to the sale or pledging of the gold he received from the victims. The accused was presented before the court and has been remanded.
