THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Bar Council imposed a ban on senior lawyer Advocate Bailin Das, accused of brutally assaulting junior lawyer J.V. Shyamili in the Vanchiyoor office the other day. The ban on practising is pending a final decision on disciplinary action. The Bar Council will look forward to registering a case voluntarily to take disciplinary action. The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the Bar Council office bearers.
A notice will be issued to Bailin ahead of disciplinary action. A committee comprising two members of the Bar Council had submitted a preliminary investigation report.
On Wednesday, Police reached Bailin’s office in Vanchiyoor with the victim for evidence collection. At the same time, Bailin is still at large after evading arrest right in front of police eyes. It is alleged that the lack of strong police intervention and the protection of the Bar Association office bearers paved the way for the accused to escape. The government has issued strict instructions to arrest the accused immediately. The Women's Commission has registered a case.
By Wednesday evening, Minister P. Rajeev reached Vanchiyoor and met Shyamili to express the government's support. CPM District Secretary V. Joy and CPM leader S. P. Deepak accompanied him. Minister Veena George and former minister K. K. Shailaja expressed their support.
The Vanchiyoor police registered a case against Bailin Das under non-bailable sections for violence against women.
Shyamili reached the Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning and sought specialist treatment for injuries to her eyes and jaw. Although she was in severe pain, the doctor advised her not to take painkillers as she was breastfeeding.
