THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the state today. A yellow alert has been issued in four districts: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy showers. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that isolated places in all districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, along with strong winds reaching up to 40 km/h in the next three hours.
Rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days as well. On Sunday, a yellow alert is in place for Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts. On Monday, the alert extends to Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
As part of the "Kallakkadal" phenomenon, the National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of possible sea incursions along the Kerala coast until 11:30 PM tomorrow, due to waves rising between 0.3 and 0.7 meters. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to remain alert. Since sea turbulence may intensify, people living in vulnerable areas should relocate following the instructions of the authorities.
