THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior advocate Bailin Das, the accused in the case of assaulting a young junior lawyer at the Vanchiyoor court, has been taken into custody. He was apprehended from Station Kadavu in Thiruvananthapuram. The arrest was carried out by the Thumba Police.
After being taken into custody, Bailin Das was first taken to Thumba Police Station. From there, he was taken to another location for interrogation.
The arrest comes a day before the court is set to consider the anticipatory bail plea filed by Bailin Das in connection with the case of assaulting woman advocate Shyamili. Police had mounted significant pressure to apprehend the accused. Today, Bailin Das's wife was summoned to appear at the station, and the mobile phones of the advocate's relatives were also examined.
In an effort to prevent Bailin from fleeing, the police conducted frequent inspections at the houses of his friends and relatives. Following intensive investigations, police managed to arrest Bailin Das on the third day after the incident. An alert had been issued across the state to prevent the accused from leaving Kerala.
On the day of the assault, after attacking Shyamili, the advocate fled the scene, and his mobile phone was last switched off in the Kazhakkoottam area. This led the police to suspect that he was likely hiding somewhere within the city limits.
