KANNUR: KPCC President Sunny Joseph MLA has strongly accused the CPM of attempting to incite a riot in Kannur through premeditated attacks and provocations. He alleged that CPM goons are widely unleashing violence targeting Congress offices and the homes of its leaders. He claimed these actions are taking place with the knowledge and blessings of the CPI(M) state leadership and the district secretary, while the police remain complicit.
Despite prior intelligence regarding CPM’s violent intentions, the police have allegedly failed to act, Sunny Joseph said. He further alleged that the CPM is deliberately paralysing police functioning to disrupt the law and order situation in the region. The Home Department has completely failed in controlling CPM criminals or taking action against them, he added.
"The CPM’s goal is to spread fear among the public and destroy the prevailing atmosphere of peace to divert attention from growing anti-incumbency sentiments. Congress leaders are being specifically targeted. Recently, CPM criminals attacked the house of K. Irshad, the Vice President of the Congress Thaliparamba mandalam committee. Irshad’s father was physically assaulted, and vehicles at the residence were vandalised," Sunny Joseph said.
"In Panoor, CPM members destroyed Congress, Youth Congress, and KSU flags. The wave of violence began with the destruction of a Gandhi statue located in the yard of Youth Congress Thaliparamba mandalam secretary Saneesh. CPM also attacked MP K. Sudhakaran and MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. When Congress workers protested peacefully against these acts, they too were assaulted," he said.
He further accused the CPM of escalating the situation with death threats, hate speech, and provocative rhetoric, while police continued to avoid taking action against the perpetrators.
Referring to CPM district secretariat member P.V. Gopinath’s statement that a Gandhi statue would not be allowed to be installed, Sunny Joseph said it was an insult to the Father of the Nation. He called the statement clear evidence of the CPM’s anti-Gandhi stance and claimed the party is now competing with the RSS in showing contempt for Mahatma Gandhi.
"The CPM has turned into a party of murderers and quotation gangs. The Congress would firmly respond to the CPM’s challenge against installing a Gandhi statue. We will ensure that Gandhi statues are erected even in the CPM's strongholds. If they are destroyed, the party will rebuild them each time. The party will provide full protection to its workers in the face of CPM’s ongoing violence," Sunny Joseph added.
