THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in the state from today. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph in isolated places in Kerala from today to May 20. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued in various districts for the next five days.

The IMD has issued an orange alert in these districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD means that very heavy rain will fall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where rain falls between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain accompanied by thunder is expected.
The IMD has informed that fishing should not be done along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts from today to May 22. There is a warning that strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph and bad weather are possible along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts during these days.
The IMD has stated that isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are likely to experience rain with thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in the next three hours.
