KOTTAYAM: Monsoon is here. It is quite a relief to welcome the season after enduring a torpid summer that has drained the populace. This summer peaked to an extent making it insufferable for Malayalees.
Amidst the comfort of nascent monsoon, a sense of premonition is clouding over Kerala. Monsoon is here, and so are the theft cases in Kottayam. The reported cases have jumped twofold with police left clueless about the culprits.
These thieves have been suspected as experts who only prioritise robbery during monsoon season. People in Kaduthuruthy, Njeezhoor, Kooveli and Kattampack areas are under threat with cases spiking in the area in recent times. Thieves are also targeting uninhabited houses.
The sound of windows or doors being smashed at night during heavy rainfall is frequent in these places. Police have placed their suspicions on Thirutt Gramam in Tamil Nadu, which is said to be a den of notorious criminals. It is presumed that these criminals travel to Kerala, mostly to Kottayam, only during monsoon season with clear intentions to pilferage.
The advisory calls for caution as they are known to break into houses, attack people and steal. This may sometimes result in murders too.
