KOZHIKODE: The fire that broke out at the new bus stand in Kozhikode on Sunday evening has now morphed into a catastrophe. Even after three and a half hours, the fire has not been brought to control. There is a threat of fire extending to more buildings in the area.

Immediate services were received from firefighters of the neighbouring district, but this did little to douse the fire. Scare looms all over the district with heavy traffic snarls reported in the area.

A fire broke out at Calicut Fashion Bazaar, a textile showroom near the Mofussil Bus Stand on Kozhikode Mavoor Road around 5 pm. The people on the other floors of the building were completely evacuated.

The buses have been completely moved from the stand. The Collector and IG have reached the spot. Fire force units including those from Karipur Airport are arduously working to alleviate the scare.
