THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Orange alert has been issued to more districts following the warning of heavy rains. Orange alert has been sounded in five districts and yellow in seven districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that heavy rains will lash Kerala in the next five days. The IMD has also informed that there should be no fishing on the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep from today till May 23.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for the following districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rain as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorms is expected.
