Thiruvananthapuram native doctor found hanging in Kochi, probe underway

KOCHI: A pathology fellowship student at a leading private hospital in Kochi was found hanging on Sunday night. Vattiyoorkavu Padayani Road native, Dr Surya Rashmi (24) died in the incident.

The body was found hanging in the bedroom of a flat on Metal Box Road, North Edapally around 10:30 pm on Sunday.

Surya, who completed her medical PG, had come to Kochi a year ago to do a fellowship. Her parents have been trying her on the phone since yesterday but to no avail. They later alerted the landlord who forced a check into her apartment and the body was found.

The body was handed over to the relatives after the postmortem at Kalamassery Medical College. Surya had very few friends and did well academically. The reason behind the suicide is yet to be found.

Surya is the daughter of Former Reserve Bank of India officer Bhagavatheeswaran and R Sudha. BS Sudarshan is her brother. The final rites will be held on Tuesday at Santhikavadam Thycaud at 10 am.
