THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange-yellow alerts in 12 districts in view of heavy rains being predicted in the state. Today, orange alert has been issued for four districts and yellow alert for eight districts. The National Oceanographic Research Institute has also informed that there is a possibility of sea erosion as part of the black sea phenomenon.
Orange alert

The IMD has issued an orange alert in the following districts. The possibility of very heavy rainfall has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD means that very heavy rainfall will occur in 24 hours, ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where rain falls between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain accompanied by thunder is expected. Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and flash floods are advised to move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
